Caterpillar Classroom

Caterpillar Classroom

The caterpillar room at the YMCA CDC has our youngest age group.  They are 18-24 months old in  August, the beginning of our year.  We offer a safe environment for these toddlers to learn and grow, and experience the wonders of their expanding world. We concentrate on basic social skills and emotional development, such as sharing, respecting each other, kindness, manners.  We also encourage basic motor skills with a variety of activities.  In this class, we explore basic science, math, and creative arts through everyday tasks.  Of course, language development through reading and storytelling is a part of our daily routine.

Caterpillar Head Teacher
Hi, my name is Grace Glover, and I am the assistant in the 4 and 5-year-old room. I work in the preschool room in the morning and I also work in the 18-month-old room in the afternoons. I have my Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Southwest Wisconsin Technical College and have been teaching for the past 4 years. I have taught almost every age group from toddlers to preschoolers over that span of time. I also am Pyramid Model certified as well as certified in Wisconsin Early Learning Model Standard.

Assistant Teacher
Hello my name is Suzie Kurpgeweit.  I graduated with my Associates in Human Services from Central Community College- Hastings in 2000.  I went on to work with at-risk youth and families working with DHHS. From 2005-2006  I was a nanny for special needs child where I learned so much.   In 2007 I started focusing more on adults and worked for the State of Nebraska for 10 years in the probation division.  In December 2019 I graduated with my Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and Psychology from the University of Nebraska-Kearney.  I am currently working on my masters degree in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program.

I enjoy working with children a great deal.  I feel I can learn so much from children just as they learn from me.  Children are very honest in their feelings and responses.  I hope to help each child with their social and emotional development and giving each child the
attention they deserve.
