Denny Placzek, CEO
Hello and welcome to the Kearney Family YMCA! Whether you are here at our Y for our Group Exercise classes, our youth programs, or a little bit of it all, I am excited to have you be a part of our family.
I graduated from the University of Nebraska Kearney with a Bachelor’s degree, emphasis in Business. In addition, I am also a graduate of Leadership Kearney and a current member of the Colonels Club.
I have been working here at the Kearney Y for 24 years. Originally, I began my career here as the Business Operations Director and in 2008, I stepped into the leadership role of CEO. Through National Y, I earned a leadership certification, helping me to be actively involved in coaching future YMCA leaders. Developing relationships is a key ingredient, not only to a successful organization, but in our YMCA.
My wife Amy and I have two children Chase and Lydia. When I’m not spending time with my grandchildren, Bryson and Mckenna, you might find me getting a run in or attending some of our group exercise classes like cycling, indorow, and, from time to time, an early morning boot-camp. With the kids out of the house, I manage to spoil our chocolate lab, Molly.
The Y is a growing organization that is beneficial to not only our members but our community. Time and time again, I am reminded of what a great city Kearney is. We want to carry that into our doors here at the Kearney Family YMCA. Without Kearney, the Y wouldn’t be here and we can not thank our members and the community enough for everything that they have done and continue to do for us. We are blessed with amazing members who are willing to help others get introduced to a group exercise class or help get someone started on their wellness journey. I have seen members and staff alike provide not only encouragement to new faces stepping into our doors but familiar faces as well, because family is a word the Y values. We want everyone utilizing the Y to not only feel appreciated and valued, but as if they are coming home every time they park because, together, we are the Y.
Whether you are just a visitor to our facility or a member, I hope you enjoy our home here at the Kearney Family YMCA and I look forward to seeing you more. Who knows? Maybe you can join my cycling classes!
Again, welcome to our home!
