Dillon Nelson

Dillon Nelson, Membership Engagement Manager

Hello and welcome to the Kearney Family YMCA website!

I started working here at the Kearney Y in the Family Center and Service Desk in 2014. It started off a part-time job that was able to work with my schedule while I was going to college for theater here at UNK. When I graduated in 2015, I was offered a chance to join the Y team as the Service Center Manager and quickly jumped to the opportunity.

During my time as a member and then as an employee I quickly learned that the Y organization was so much more than just a gym or a place to swim. It truly is a cause, a place for the community and for the members to find another home. Coming from a small town here in Nebraska, it felt like that same environment. Everyone is supportive, encouraging, and having the familiar faces really help to connect to the Y family.

Together the Welcome Center staff and I have really focused on making sure that every member or visitor are welcomed as our own family members. Our aspiration as the Welcome Center team is to live and exemplify our values of: Honesty, Caring, Responsibility, and Respect. No person is a number in our eyes and every person matters. No matter the size, shape, fitness experience level, financial income situation, etc. We value all of the community, whether they are members our facility or another, Kearney is our family.

Connie Weight
HI peeps! It’s your crazy “official” Y weekday opener Connie, or am I #Conster, #Connielicious, #CDub? You never know with me. especially by the time it hits #UpsidedownFridays! You’ll actually often find me jammin’ out at the front desk.

This is my seventh year at the Y, if you can believe it, and I cherish every moment here! I love getting to know my peeps, helping you all with your questions and program registrations, and witnessing your journeys, even if it’s just saying hi, welcoming you into our facility, introducing you to a new class or a different type of workout. I started here with my own journey in hopes to help others with theirs, and though that personal journey has changed for me,  I’m always ready to encourage you throughout yours.

My main focus is all of you, and making sure you get the quality customer service you deserve.I’ll always look forward to continue seeing y’all here, and hope to be here for several years to come! Y’all can’t get rid of me that easily!!!

Katie Ridder
Hi! My name is Katie.  I have been an employee here at the Y on and off for about 4 yrs! I started at the desk, then was a lifeguard, and helped with youth sports, then I was a teacher in the Child Development center for a year, now I’m back at the desk.  Many of you already know, but I am a bit of a theater nerd.  You can often see me singing and being a character at Kearney Community Theatre.  I recently completed my Bachelor’s Degree in Vocal Performance with an Emphasis in Opera.  I hope to pursue my Masters in Opera in the coming years!

Josh Pierson
Nice to meet you! My name is Josh Pierson and I have worked at the Kearney Family YMCA since the Summer of 2019. I enjoy spending my time helping members and encouraging them to become their best selves. During my spare time, you can find me at the gym training for my next bodybuilding show or powerlifting meet. I have a strong passion for helping people and I’ve been fortunate enough to work at the YMCA where I can do that every day.

Ryan Buhrow
Hi, my name is Ryan Buhrow. I’m sorry if my sarcasm ever reaches catastrophic levels. Trust me I know it’s not good for anyone. I try to make a joke out of every situation and I try my best to make things seem a little better on the outside. I was born in Kearney, but ended up living in Omaha for just about 7 years. Going from 600,000 people to about 40,000 people was a little different transition, but hey if I didn’t move back I would’ve never met some of you! Even some of you trouble makers I see daily. (You know who you are). I’m a big people person, so don’t be afraid to say hi! If you like basketball or football I can talk and argue for days. I’m an Exercise Science major so I love everything around fitness. (Except my diet that I tend to struggle with ): ). Also I’m sorry if I annoy you with quotes from Will Ferrell movies I just think he’s a comedical genius. If you ever have any questions about the Y or need a good Will Ferrell quote just let me know! I got you covered!

Hi – I am Marnie Carr – and I have been a member of the Kearney Y staff for about a year. I work full-time for DHHS and enjoy serving others. I became involved in the Y when I started training for half marathons that have now turned into marathons.  I’ve done 5 so far and my goal is one in each state. I am blessed with a son, Drew, and his family, (wife Andrea and daughter Riley Ann), who live in Valparaiso, and I am smitten by my granddaughter. Other than Drew and family, all my family lives in Minnesota or Kansas, so my friends are my local family.  Every day is a new day and around every corner is an adventure! Make the most of life – share a smile – Praise God!

Hey guys my name is Sean, I am currently attending UNK pursuing my degree in Industrial Distribution while also being on the wrestling team. Just recently my fiance Emily Benne and I brought a new little one into the world and her name is Mackinley Mae! I look forward to being apart of the community and meeting all of you guys.
