Dillon Nelson, Membership Services Manager
Hello and welcome to the Kearney Family YMCA website!
I started working here at the Kearney Y in the Family Center and Service Desk in 2014. It started off a part-time job that was able to work with my schedule while I was going to college for theater here at UNK. When I graduated in 2015, I was offered a chance to join the Y team as the Service Center Manager and quickly jumped to the opportunity.
During my time as a member and then as an employee I quickly learned that the Y organization was so much more than just a gym or a place to swim. It truly is a cause, a place for the community and for the members to find another home. Coming from a small town here in Nebraska, it felt like that same environment. Everyone is supportive, encouraging, and having the familiar faces really help to connect to the Y family.
Together the Welcome Center staff and I have really focused on making sure that every member or visitor are welcomed as our own family members. Our aspiration as the Welcome Center team is to live and exemplify our values of: Honesty, Caring, Responsibility, and Respect. No person is a number in our eyes and every person matters. No matter the size, shape, fitness experience level, financial income situation, etc. We value all of the community, whether they are members our facility or another, Kearney is our family.Back to Our Leadership

“HI peeps! It’s your crazy “official” Y weekday opener! You’ll actually often find me jammin’ out at the front desk. I love getting to know my peeps, helping you all with your questions and program registrations, and witnessing your journeys, even if it’s just saying hi. I started here with my own journey in hopes to help others with theirs, and though that personal journey has changed for me, I’m always ready to encourage you. My main focus is all of you and making sure you get the quality customer service you deserve. I’ll always look forward to continue seeing y’all here.”
“Hi! My name is Alexis and I’m not sure if I’m considered a veteran or new. Last summer I worked upstairs in the Fitness Center, but this is my first summer at the desk. In between last summer and now, I traveled for my sorority. Fun fact: I went to 21 states in 7 1/2 months which was an amazing experience. I graduated from UNK in 2018 and will be teaching math at Grand Island Senior High in the fall. I love trying all of our group exercise classes, with cycling and Power Hour becoming two of my new favorites!”
“Hello everyone, my name is Jordan Scott. I am a very exciting person and love interacting with others. To tell you a little about myself, I was born in Arizona and lived there for six years and for another six years I lived in California. My family and I then moved to Kansas where we lived for two years before moving to Burwell, Nebraska where I graduated high school. I am the middle child of five boys. I am currently a student at UNK following in my parents footsteps in becoming a PE teacher. I am excited to have become a part of the Kearney Y and get to know each and everyone of you everyday!”
Hey guys my name is Sean, I am currently attending UNK pursuing my degree in Industrial Distribution while also being on the wrestling team. Just recently my fiance Emily Benne and I brought a new little one into the world and her name is Mackinley Mae! I look forward to being apart of the community and meeting all of you guys.
“Hello everyone! My name is Miles Putnam and I have been working as a staff member at the Kearney Family YMCA since November of 2020. I am originally from Columbus, NE where I graduated high school from Scotus Central Catholic in 2016. I am currently in my fifth year of college at UNK, as I am finishing up my Sports Management degree along with my Exercise Science major and Health Science minor. I plan to graduate in July of 2021 and follow the path of becoming an athletic director in the future. I am thrilled to be a part of the Kearney Family YMCA and I enjoy seeing and interacting with all of our members!”
“Hey everyone, my name is Braden Rich. I am currently a freshman at UNK and am double majoring in physical education and business education. My junior year of high school I began working for the YMCA with the youth programs and have been working here ever since. In my free time I enjoy lifting weights, playing poker, and watching sports. I am glad that I am a part of the Kearney Y, and I look forward to continuing to meet all of you!”
