Frequently Asked Questions

We want to try our best to answer all of your questions about our facility, membership, and programs.

On this page we will list some of our most common questions and continually add to our list!

What is the Y?

The Y is the leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community by connecting all people to their potential, purpose and each other. Working locally, we focus on empowering young people, improving health and well-being and inspiring action in and across communities.

Membership

I can’t pay for an entire year membership, can you help?

No worries! You don’t have to do an annual membership, we offer a monthly membership option as well. We are not a contract, you are not locked into any commitments, and there are no annual fees.

In addition we also offer Membership Assistance which is based on the income of the household. This program can help reduce the membership costs 25-50%. This program is not connected to credit or anything. It is strictly a program we offer to help those in need.

I am a member of another YMCA but attending college here at UNK. Can I still use your facility?

The NationWide policy provided from National YMCA states: “If they intend to live away from their home Y for more than 28 days, they need to transfer their membership and pay membership dues to the participating Y they are visiting; this Y then becomes their home Y while they are in temporary residence.

I just want a membership for your pool area, how does that work?

The Kearney Y location doesn’t offer department based memberships. Our memberships grant access to all our facility amenities within the age requirements.

Fitness Center & Group Ex

How old do you need to be to be able to go upstairs or attend a Group Exercise class?

Fitness Center: Youth that have completed the Fitness Center Orientation can utilize our Fitness Center if they are 11 or 12 with an adult. If they are not accompanied by an adult they must be 13 years of age or older.

Group Ex: Youth can attend any non-weighted classes starting at 13 years of age but it is recommended that you speak with Hallie Ganz to see which classes would be the best fit!

I went to another Y and tried a class I REALLY like! Who do I talk to about seeing if we can bring is here?

With your NationWide membership, you are able to check out what other Y’s have to offer you during your travels. If you ever see a class or something that you would like to share with us, let us know! We love hearing feedback. For Group Exercise, Hallie Ganz is your go-to gal.
